About Us

In 1979, Jim York decided to change his career drastically.  After retiring from being the owner of York Auto here is Weyburn, Saskatchewan, he and his wife Pat purhased the location at 39 3rd Street from the previous owner Jim Weir (Weir Jewellers), and went into the jewellery business, thus begining the legacy of York Jewellers.

His son Alan along with his wife Janice decided to take over the store in 1986.  The following year, they purchased the neighboring business ( ) at 45 3rd Street, they knocked a hole in the wall between the two stores, doubling their space, expanding further into giftware and less expensive jewellery options, while offering more space dedicated to trophies, engraving, and much more!

In 2015, Al and Jans son Ryan entered the family business with dreams of continuing the legacy of York Jewellers.  Starting doing basic watch repairs and sales, Ryan was hungry for knowledge and wanted to learn everything he could about jewellery, repair work, and business in general.  When 2017 rolled around, Ryan needed to expand his training, skills, and knowledge.  Ryan had taken training from the Gemological Institute of America (G.I.A.) to become a CAD/CAM Designer.  This allowed him to work with a state of the art 3D program being able to create beautiful and custom jewellery.  The following year Ryan was sent back to the G.I.A. to take their Graduate Jeweler program.  Here Ryan graduated with his Diploma as a Bench Jeweller (Goldsmith).  He had learned how to do all sorts of repairs such as ring sizing, prong retipping, stone setting, chain repair, reshanking rings and much more.  Ryan has future plans to take more courses in stone setting, hand engraving, firearms engraving, as well as more advanced fabrication and other metal works!

Over the years, the legacy of York Jewellers has become a family with not only the Yorks, but all of the incredible staff and clients we have had over the years!

Raeghan Schmidt is a name everyone in the jewellery industry will know soon.  Starting with York Jewellers in 2010, she was an excellent sales person with a huge hunger for knowledge when it came to jewellery and gemstones.  In 2013, she began her journey to obtain her Graduate Gemologist Diploma from the Gemological Institute of America.  She graduated in June of 2017.  Shortly after her Diploma graduation from the G.I.A., she went for more training to become a Registered Master Valuer, which she graduated from in August of 2018.  This title qualifies her to professionally and accurately do appraisals on your prized pieces!
